At 6:52 p.m., Eduardo Rodriguez shot Christopher Griffin, 36, in the face in broad daylight in front of a crowd of people on the 300 block of Mount Prospect Avenue, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens said. Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, Stephens said.
Rodriguez was convicted of murder and multiple weapons offenses, Stephens said. Rodriguez was on parole for a previous carjacking at the time of the murder, Stephens said.
He remains in the Essex County Correctional Facility and faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced in August, Stephens said.
